Our commitment is to provide a caring, supportive, safe in a comfortable home-like environment. Our professional and skilled staff will work closely with all community partners, families and funding agencies to maintain a high level of care using best practices in care.
The residence is located in a serene country setting less than 10 minutes from downtown Prince George, with convenient access to public transportation to shopping malls, medical offices, hospitals, parks, recreation facilities and other community services.
Every day our care home operates with the support of highly qualified and specially trained nursing and professional staff who strive to ensure each of our residents continues to reach their highest level of functioning, in their Physical, Emotional and Social well being with the skill and gentle care we provide.
The Staff at Birchview Residences are committed to providing a safe, caring, home-like environment for residents using the concept of Ageing in Place which follows the Eden Alternative Philosophy. Our goal is to enable each resident to achieve their optimal level of functional ability by providing care services appropriate for that individual. For example, we’ll try to cook their favorite recipes, or tailor outings to their personal interests and activity level – little things that can make a significant difference to an individual’s quality of life.
We understand that the transition to residential care comes with considerable change. From the uniquely beautiful sites we have chosen for our residences, to the warm and caring attitude of our staff, we strive to make this transition a positive one for residents and their families.

The relatively smaller size of our facilities ensures optimal care and attention is available to each resident and that the highest standards of cleanliness and safety are maintained. Residents enjoy private rooms with ensuites and delicious meals prepared with individual preferences in mind. All our residences are designed with bright, spacious visiting and recreation areas and easy access to outdoor walkways, patios and gardens. Family members and friends are encouraged to enjoy meals with residents and participate in residents’ activities.
Dr. Desai complete his B.Sc. (Hons) in Biochemistry magna cum laude prior to entering Medical School at University of Ottawa. He graduated as valedictorian and proceeded to complete a Family Medicine residency at the University of Toronto, Sunnybrook Hospital. He has subsequently also completed his Emergency Medicine certi?cation at UBC.
Dr. Desai has over 25 years’ clinical experience practicing family and emergency medicine including institutional geriatric care, in British Columbia, Ontario and New Zealand. He was staff physician at the Phoenix Centre Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre in Kamloops for over 10 years. He is a member of good standing of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC and the College of Family Physicians of Canada as well as the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians.
He also volunteers in numerous activities in his community in sports, youth activities as well as teaching health in schools. He is married with 2 children Dr. Desai is committed to dedicating his experience and compassion to the care of the community of Birchview Residences.
Mr. Nihal Maligaspe has worked as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse / Registered Nurse, Nursing Manager and as Director Mental Health Services across Canada and UK.
He was a Nursing Instructor at Thompson Rivers University. In the past several years he was the VP for operations and nursing services for a seniors care company in BC. Currently he continues his consulting services for seniors care facilities.
He has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Athabasca University, Baccalaureate in Nursing (BScN) from the University of Alberta and trained as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Toronto and Psychiatric Nursing (RPN) in England.
